{besps}bieszczady/banerbieszczady{/besps}Bieszczady are not very high but very extensive chain of mountains in the Eastern Carpathians,  on the south east of Poland. Bieszczady used to be called:
"Polish Wild West", but such term is a total mistake. First, this is not west, but east of Poland, and second... Bieszczady associate with hard conditions, the lack of the infrastructure,  extensive wilderness and this is the truth, but does it caused by mother nature protecting her treasures sternly ? - well, not. 
Untill the year 1945 area of Bieszczady was quite densely populated - for more information I recommend to read tourist's guide Rewasz publishers. However, in the light of my description, the most important is the fact, that till 1947 year, during the terror, softly  called  "action Vistula" , thousands of people have been roughly exiled from here. Such exile is pretilly called the "displacement", however some accidentaly met elder man, coming from Komańcza told us
how such "displacement" looked like. Soldiers plunged into peoples houses and commanded to leave house in half of hour ( often it was just 5 minutes )
with the most necessary equipment, after this time the hause was fired....  and families have been taken away in four sides of world... Just because of this, defining Bieszczady as wild mountains is deplorable. As well as officious protection of the local nature. Being in the places of the former villages, the unique nature, turns to be the common bushes. Just because of this, defining Bieszczady as wild mountains is deplorable. Being in the places of the former villages, the unique nature, turns to be the common bushes.  Of course,  I encourage the protection of the nature, but f.ex. drive the bicycle forbiding ( where are suitable conditions) seems to be little exaggeration... However Bieszczady are the great place for tourists valuing the "holy quiet".

Approach and accomodation:

In time of summer school holidays ( 26 June till 31 August ) in Poland approach from the various places of Poland is not a problem:
there are a lot of railway connections (to Zagórz, Sanok, Przemyśl ) and buses - e.g. the connection from Cracow to Ustrzyki Górne.
The approach is much more complicated after the season. If You don't have Your own car, the best way is to travel by train to Przemyśl or Rzeszów
from these cities are some buses to Ustrzyki Dolne, where we have to change bus following to Ustrzyki Górne ).
